About Brendan Eich's Resignation

I have been waiting a few days to let my anger settle down after Brendan's resignation.

First of all, I will not state if I am in favour or against gay marriage because this is totally irrelevant.

For those who do not know me, I have contributed to Mozilla for ten years localizing products, websites, newsletter, etc. and  I am still a fervent supporter of the Mozilla mission. Currently, I am only localizing Bugzilla due to the lack of contributors to pursue this. I have withdrawn from my active contribution due to similar circumstances that I did not agree with.

At that time, a few vociferous employees have lobbied to get a code of conduct set that would apply to every communication channels for the whole community because of internal corporation issues. The controversy even stood on the Diversity section to have a long Prévert-style inventory instead of just a "We welcome everyone". Why not also adding: "people who love spicy food or the blue colour"…

In my opinion, Mozilla did not learn the lesson then and this happened again. It let once more the very same (?) people took its name and image as a battlefield, a playground, a megaphone or whatever for their personal convictions. Mozilla is about the Web and considerations outside the scope of the manifesto should be held elsewhere. There are regulations, rules and contracts that define obligations between employer and employees: internal corporate problems should be addressed in the corporation or in the worst case in a tribunal if necessary. The community should not be taken as witness or hostage to settle human resources management issues. Nor the American politically correctness culture to be the rule: the community is global.

If the employees who jeopardized Mozilla and its mission have some decency or dignity left, they should resign themselves or at least just shut up once for all and do the job they are paid for. They are free to fight for their convictions outside of the Mozilla Project.

I strongly hope that Mozilla has learnt the lesson now and will not allow this again in the future.

A new home for French Bugzilla pages

I recently acquired bugzilla.fr domain to stop the friendly and justified mockeries about Bugzilla pages url home (cedric.corazza.pagesperso-orange.fr/) provided by my ISP.
So Bugzilla fr has now a brand new freshly painted home and its own matching blog :-) .
